Maremma: Sovana and Pitigliano - A journey through time
Maremma refers to the southern part of Tuscany with medieval towns of mostly Etruscan origin such as Pitigliano, Sorano and Sovana, which render it distinct. A long and complicated journey that covers a time-span from the 3rd century BC all the way to the present day and which takes place in an area of just a few kilometres: the space between Sovana and Pitigliano. We begin at the Etruscan necropolis, a true surprise that will take your breath away. After the necropolis, and continuing on for several kilometers, a Via Cava leads to Sovana, an incredible medieval city that has remained intact to this day and that develops lengthwise, gently giving way to the countryside.
